Simon Ward
joined the company in 1998 after completing a Ph. D. in Geology
at the University of Canterbury. His research experience included basin
analysis, sedimentology and palynology of coal-bearing sequences, and
the management and modelling of geological data.
Since then, Simon has been involved in a wide variety of projects with IRBA.
Coalfield projects include Greymouth Coalfield (database development,
stratigraphy and geotechnical design), Pike River Coalfield (resource
assessment and subsidence analysis) and desktop reviews of coal and
lignite resources in Otago and Southland. Petroleum projects include
extensive wellsite geology assignments in onshore and offshore Taranaki,
preparing numerous well completion reports and assisting with petroleum
mining permit applications and geotechnical assessments of pipeline routes.
Geotechnical projects include site investigations and active fault hazard
assessments throughout Wellington and the Wairarapa, and hardrock
quarry resource modelling.
Simon is a member of the Geological Society of New Zealand and the
American Association of Petroleum Geologists.
